If you’re looking for some great weed in Nevada, you’ve come to the right place. For those who don’t know, recreational cannabis has been legal in Nevada for the last 7 years.

In that time, Nevada growers and retailers have taken to producing and selling some of the most flavourful and potent strains found in the whole country.

Today, we want to introduce you to the top ten weed strains in Nevada. We’ll cover their potency, flavour, aroma, genetics and more.

One thing to take note of, however, is that today we are focusing on THC strains, as these are the strains that produce the “high” that most people are after.

Is Weed Legal in Nevada?

Yes, weed is legal in Nevada. Recreational marijuana officially became legal on January 1st, 2017. Much earlier than that, the state legalised medical cannabis use in 2000.

Recently, as of January 1st, 2024, adults of 21 years of age are allowed to deliver, possess, or produce up to 2.5 ounces of cannabis, or one-quarter ounce of THC concentrate.

This marks a stark increase from the previous one ounce of dry flower and one-eighth of an ounce of THC concentrate that was allowed for possession.

Top 10 Weed Strains in Nevada

Now, let’s find out the top ten weed strains that Nevadans enjoy regularly.

1. Bettie White

When it comes to popular strains of cannabis in Nevada, there’s no better way to start than with one of the most famous names of the 21st century. Bettie White is a fan favourite, not just because of the amazing person it’s named after, but because of its high THC level and impressive flavour.

Genetics

Bettie White is indica-dominant with about 60% indica and 40% sativa. It’s made by crossing two of the most popular classics, Blueberry and White Widow, both of which add their flavours and effects to the equation.

Potency – THC Content

In terms of THC level, Bettie White is one of the more potent strains out there, coming in at an average of 23% to 25%, and in some cases, even higher. With upwards of 25% THC, this weed strain is not for the faint of heart, and beginners should go easy on it. Just a few puffs of this stuff should have you reliving the Golden Girls with Betty herself.

Appearance

Bettie White features oversized buds that are triangular, almost like little Christmas trees. They’re usually fairly bright, almost neon green in colour, with very thick orange hairs, along with a healthy layer of white trichomes, which is where all of that delectable THC is contained.

Flavour and Aroma

Thanks to the various terpenes found in this strain, it has a flavour reminiscent of blueberries and other berries. It’s generally sweet and fruity, although there’s a sour and lemony undertone, along with a hint of wood and pine on the exhale. If you smell these buds, they smell almost like a lemon cleaner with a fruity overtone.

Effects

Bettie White is a potent strain, and indica-dominant, so you can expect it to produce a strong body high. It’s the kind of strain that will make you feel heavy and tingly right from the first puff, something that will likely make you want to watch a whole lot of TV and eat some snacks.

The body high produced by this strain is very strong, as is the head high. Remember that this strain is still 40% sativa, so you should feel a good bit of euphoria and mental stimulation. It’s a great strain to try if you want a combination head and body high, all without putting you right to sleep.

2. Falcon 9

If you’re looking for a popular Nevada weed strain, look no further than Falcon 9. Although it might have quite an intense name, its THC level isn’t all that high, making it ideal for beginners who are just venturing into the world of THC.

Genetics

Just like the above strain, Falcon 9 is also indica-dominant, although this one slightly more so, at around 70% indica and 30% sativa. It is made by crossing two other popular strains, Tina and Sunset Sherbet.

Potency – THC Content

As mentioned above, Falcon 9 isn’t the strongest strain in the world and usually tops out at 20% THC. Although, you can expect this strain to have an average THC level of about 16%, therefore making it fairly mild. Thanks to its moderate THC level, it’s an ideal strain for beginners to try. It still produces a notable high, but shouldn’t be so strong as to produce feelings of paranoia or anxiety.

Appearance

Falcon 9 buds are elongated, much longer than they are wide, and they’re quite dark, like an olive green. You’ll also find some thin and bright orange hairs on the outside, along with a coating of frosty white crystals.

Flavour and Aroma

Thanks to various terpenes, such as limonene, caryophyllene, and pinene, you can expect this strain to have a very sour and citrusy flavour characterised by oranges and lemons, along with just a hint of earthiness on the exhale. If you break a bud open and smell it, you’ll smell a whole lot of gas and spicy herbs.

Effects

Thanks to its indica-dominant nature and relatively low THC level, this strain produces a relaxing and enjoyable body high. It’s not overly strong, but you should feel your whole body relaxing from top to bottom.

You’re likely to feel a bit heavy and relaxed in general. It also produces a mildly euphoric head high, although nothing too potent. It’s a perfect strain for relaxing after a long day, something that can put you in a mellow state of mind without blasting you right to the moon.

3. Headband Cookies

Going even further in the indica direction, here we have Headband Cookies, another hugely popular strain in Las Vegas and the surrounding area.

Genetics

Headband Cookies is 75% indica and 25% sativa, which means that those who like a relaxing body high should really enjoy it. It’s made by crossing two other potent strains, D-DNL and Girl Scout Cookies.

Potency – THC Content

Interesting to note about Headband Cookies is that its THC level can vary greatly, anywhere from 15% to 25%, with somewhere around 20% being average. Therefore, this is a strain that could be ideal for beginners and seasoned veterans alike, depending on the exact specimen that you get. 15% THC is not all that much, whereas 25% is definitely towards the higher end of the spectrum.

Appearance

Headband Cookies features large buds, which some might say are oversized. They’re shaped like small spades and olive green in colour. Unlike many other cannabis strains, this one features red pistils on the outside, along with a very thick layer of white trichomes.

Flavour and Aroma

If you break a bud open, you’ll get a combination of mintiness, earthiness, and diesel. These aromas only intensify as you burn the buds, with a taste of sour earth and mint being prevalent on the tongue, along with a bit of fuel and diesel on the exhale.

Effects

This strain produces a near-immediate high, with a combination of strong body and mental effects. You’ll feel a cerebral high from the first puff that stimulates and uplifts you. Interesting to note is that although this strain is indica-dominant, it’s not generally known for being sedating.

In fact, it can pep you up and inspire a bit of creativity too. It’s all about feeling euphoric. That said, a few hours later, you will feel the body high kick in, a distinct heaviness, and a bit of a burnout.

4. Ghost Train Haze

Ghost Train Haze cannabis strain.
Ghost Train Haze cannabis strain

As far as popular marijuana strains in Nevada are concerned, Ghost Train Haze is yet another fan favourite. This potent sativa is sure to motivate and uplift you. Back in 2012, it was actually named the “most potent strain on Earth” by High Times Magazine.

Genetics

Ghost Train Haze is the first sativa-dominant strain on our list, and in fact, is about 80% sativa. As you can expect from a sativa strain, it’s quite uplifting. It’s a combination of two other highly potent strains, Neville’s Wreck and Ghost OG.

Potency – THC Content

Although in the 12 years since this strain has received the award for the most potent strain on Earth, there have been more potent strains developed, Ghost Train Haze still features an incredible THC level of 27%, and in some cases even higher. Some specimens may border on 30%. Even seasoned cannabis connoisseurs should exercise a bit of caution with this strain, as a little bit will go a very long way.

Appearance

Ghost Train Haze features medium-sized, relatively rounded buds with about as many hairs and trichomes on the outside as you could possibly imagine. All of that THC has to be somewhere!

Flavour and Aroma

Ghost Train Haze contains various active terpenes, including terpinolene, limonene, and myrcene. These give it a flavour and aroma of sweet and sour pine and citrus, with distinct floral overtones.

Effects

Thanks to its incredibly high 27% THC level, along with its sativa-dominant genetics, you can expect this strain to produce an extremely strong head high. Within a few seconds of taking your first puff, you’ll feel your mind blasting off into outer space.

You’re going to feel creative, uplifted, and giggly, with most people reporting having extreme laughing fits over nothing at all.

It doesn’t really produce much of a body high, and it doesn’t sedate you either, making it an ideal choice for daytime. With that being said, due to its very high THC level, there’s also a chance that it can produce feelings of paranoia or anxiety, so those with a low THC tolerance should be careful.

5. Head Cheese

Although it might not have an overly appealing name, Head Cheese is yet another popular weed strain in the great state of Nevada. As you can tell by its name, it has quite an aroma!

Genetics

Head Cheese is a cross between UK Cheese and 707 Headband, resulting in a 60% sativa-dominant strain with moderate THC levels.

Potency – THC Content

Head Cheese contains anywhere between 19% and 24% THC, although it’s usually on the lower end of that spectrum. You can expect it to contain around 20% THC on average, which means that it should be ideal for most people. It’s not so strong that beginners should feel extreme paranoia, but also not so weak that more experienced cannabis consumers won’t feel high.

Appearance

Head Cheese buds are quite large and chunky, with great density. They are as hard as rocks. They also feature a very pale green colour along with a few orange hairs coming through the surface. Many people note that the buds look like little human brains.

Flavour and Aroma

You can expect this strain to have a complex flavour profile thanks to terpenes such as ocimene, pinene, and myrcene. Although there are many flavours that you’ll taste here, the aroma and flavour of sharp and savoury cheese are at the forefront. Yes, there’s also a bit of a pine and lemon smell and flavour, but the cheese dominates everything. As for the taste, it’s quite earthy.

Effects

As for the effects, you can expect a combination of a cerebral and body high, although the instant head high is what will dominate. You should feel quite uplifted, giggly, and even a bit creative. Many people also report feeling very alert and energetic. About an hour or so after consuming this strain, the indica side should kick in, and you should start feeling much more relaxed, especially as far as your body is concerned.

6. Nepalese Kush

Coming to us straight from Nepal, Nepalese Kush is another favourite in Nevada, mainly thanks to its high THC level and pure indica nature.

Genetics

Nepalese Kush is a descendant of Hindu Kush, and this is a 100% pure indica strain.

Potency – THC Content

This strain may contain up to 24% THC, making it an ideal choice for more experienced consumers who need something strong. Thanks to its high potency, many people use it in an attempt to treat sleeplessness and physical pain. Beginners should, however, exercise caution with it, as 24% THC is substantial.

Appearance

Nepalese Kush has relatively small nugs shaped like spades or triangles. They are forest green in colour, along with amber-hued trichomes and orange hairs.

Flavour and Aroma

This strain is one of the most delicious as far as we are concerned, as it features a flavour reminiscent of spicy flowers along with earthiness and herbs on the exhale. It’s also quite sweet, as is the aroma. If you smell this strain, you can imagine yourself standing in a field of spices and flowers.

Effects

If you’re looking for a relaxing strain that can help put you to sleep and put your mind at ease, then Nepalese Kush is the way to go. Remember, this is a 100% pure indica strain, and its effects are certainly in line with this.

It’s a bit of a creeper, so you won’t feel it right away, but within about ten minutes, you’ll feel your eyes getting heavy, your limbs tingling, and you’ll feel like taking a nap. This is a classic indica strain, and it’s sure to put you to sleep sooner rather than later.

7. Cherry Blossom

Cherry Blossom is right for you if you’re looking for something flavourful and uplifting. Although it’s most common in the Pacific Northwest, particularly in Oregon, it’s also becoming more popular in Nevada.

Genetics

Unfortunately, the genetic lineage of this strain is not known at this time. Although, what we can tell you is that it is roughly 70% indica-dominant.

Potency – THC Content

This is another one of these strains with insane THC levels, up to 27%, or in some cases even higher. Even the most experienced of cannabis consumers should be careful with it because a few puffs are more than enough to get you feeling as high as a kite.

Appearance

Cherry Blossom buds are irregularly shaped, medium-sized, and of medium density. Here, you’ll find a good mix of light and darker green hues, along with thick orange hairs and about as many white crystally trichomes as you could imagine, which is, of course, where all of that THC is contained.

Flavour and Aroma

With terpenes such as pinene, myrcene, and limonene, you can expect this strain to have a very sweet flavour and aroma, as the name applies. In fact, this is one of the few strains where the name actually resembles the taste, as it does have a taste of sweet cherries, along with a bit of citrus and pine.

Effects

Being an indica-dominant strain and containing around 27% THC means that you can expect a potent body high as soon as you inhale the first hit. Although the sativa side of things will produce a good deal of euphoria and mental stimulation, before long, the indica side will take over, and you’ll feel extremely sedated.

This is the kind of strain that’s useful to help relieve the symptoms associated with sleep issues. However, before it puts you to sleep, it’s sure to send you to your refrigerator for about half a dozen snacks.

8. Lemon Sour Diesel

Going back in the other direction, more towards sativa, here we have Lemon Sour Diesel, sometimes simply referred to as Lemon Diesel.

Genetics

Lemon Sour Diesel does, of course, have Sour Diesel in its lineage, although it is a direct descendant of Lost Coast OG and California Sour. This is a sativa-dominant strain, with a ratio of 80% sativa and 20% indica.

Potency – THC Content

Lemon Sour Diesel is one of the least potent strains on our list today, with an average THC level between 12% and 15%, with around 13% being the norm. With such a low THC level, this is a great strain for beginners who are just getting into the world of cannabis. For more seasoned consumers, it will produce a very mild yet enjoyable high that is perfect for daytime use.

Appearance

The buds of this strain are extremely dense and shaped like spades. They aren’t overly large, but they have an extremely bright neon green colouration along with amber hairs and golden undertones. It’s actually quite the beautiful-looking bud.

Flavour and Aroma

The most dominant terpenes in Lemon Sour Diesel include terpinolene, limonene, ocimene, and myrcene. This causes it to have flavours characterised by citrusy lemon and diesel. Both the flavour and aroma are extremely pungent and are quite chemically–almost like a lemon-infused gasoline.

Effects

Thanks to its low THC level and sativa-dominant nature, you can expect this strain to produce a mild cerebral high. You’ll probably feel creative, giggly, uplifted, and motivated, as well as a bit euphoric. However, it’s not so strong to produce feelings of paranoia and anxiety, and it doesn’t contain enough indica genetics to sedate you. For this reason, it’s a rather perfect daytime strain.

9. Black Cherry Gelato

Black Cherry Gelato is yet another fan-favourite cannabis strain as far as residents of Nevada are concerned, and for good reason, because it’s about as potent as it gets!

Genetics

Black Cherry Gelato is a 60% indica-dominant strain made by crossing Acai with Black Cherry Funk.

Potency – THC Content

This weed strain contains upwards of 26% THC, making it extremely potent. With such a high THC level, it’s often used in an attempt to treat issues associated with stress, depression, insomnia, and pain. Beginners should, however, be cautious with it, as just a few puffs we’ll get you as stoned as a gravel road.

Appearance

Black Cherry Gelato has relatively small and dense nugs, almost like little grapes. They are forest green, with minty green leaves, a few orange pistils, and a good deal of frosty golden crystals on the outside.

Flavour and Aroma

This strain contains various dominant terpenes, including caryophyllene, limonene, and humulene. Thanks to these terpenes, you can expect this strain to have a skunky overtone with a berry-like and herbal undertone. As you burn the buds, these flavours become even more intense, and you’ll also taste a hint of sweet fruits and cherries.

Effects

As for its effects, you can expect Black Cherry Gelato to be quite sedating in nature. Its high THC level combined with its indica-dominant nature are sure to relax you, make you feel heavy and mellow, and likely put you to sleep.

However, it is 40% sativa, so you’ll surely feel a head high at first, mainly characterised by intense euphoria. Most people would say that it’s a great mix between the cerebral high of sativas and the body high of indicas.

10. Garlic Cookies

Garlic Cookies cannabis strain.
Garlic Cookies cannabis strain

Garlic Cookies is perhaps the strongest smelling and tasting strain on this list, and in line with that, it is also the most potent.

Genetics

Here, we have an indica-dominant hybrid strain that is 90% indica and 10% sativa. It was made by crossing Girl Scout Cookies with Chemdawg.

Potency – THC Content

As mentioned above, this is the most potent strain on the list, as Garlic Cookies can contain anywhere between 30% and 35% THC, with somewhere around 32% being normal. As you can tell, that’s a whole lot of THC, and even the most experienced of consumers should exercise a great deal of caution with it. From personal experience, it’s safe to say that just half a gram is enough to produce one of the most intense body highs ever.

Appearance

Garlic Cookies’ buds have an interesting shape, as they are very oblong yet also shaped like little popcorn nugs. You can also expect a yellowish-green colour, a lot of light green hues, some orange hairs, and so many trichomes on the outside that it almost looks like the bud was rolled on beach sand.

Flavour and Aroma

As you can tell by its name, this strain has a powerful aroma and flavour of cookies combined with fuel. It’s quite earthy, fuel-like, and pungent. It’s the kind of flavour that will stay on your taste buds for hours after smoking this strain, even after drinking and eating.

Effects

Garlic Cookies, due to its astronomical THC level and indica-dominant nature, is one of the strains that will put you to sleep before you know it. It’s a great option for relieving symptoms associated with pain and stress, as well as sleeplessness and nausea. It produces an incredibly strong body high, it’s very sedating, and it’s sure to send you straight to your snack cupboard.
